Are the “good old days” of traditional customer service a thing of the past? It seems that whenever you try and reach a company representative these days you are put on indefinite hold with automated phone services, or put through to somebody who only offers apathetic responses to our issues.

There are a few companies around today that do stand out for their modern day culture of being customer service oriented. Starbucks for example, is one of the businesses that comes to mind.  Customers are offered more than just a cup of coffee that you stand in line and wait for.  You are offered the best quality product, served hot to your exact specifications.  If you choose to go in you notice the ambiance right away and friendly staff  greet you.  No wonder they have thrived in this culture of insensitivity and businesses cutting corners to increase profits.  They focus on intentionally creating that kind of experience for their clients.  We have a pleasant experience when we go there usually so we enjoy going more often.

I have the same customer service focus in my business. I strive to provide a positive experience for my clients.  I try to walk them through each step of the process and explain what to expect and what needs to happen next.  I feel it is important to be available and accessible as your real estate agent.  I hear so many people say that they went to “mega agent” in the past and they only met with him/her once for the listing appointment.  After that, they were handed off to a “team member” that they would want to do business with. They could never reach that agent that they actually signed on with. People want to know who they are doing business with.  They want to be able to call that agent up if they have a question and get updates frequently.  I am that kind of “different” agent that stands out for customer service and creating a positive experience for my clients. I do have a team, however my team provides more of a “back office” support role. They deal with online marketing, transaction processing and administrative duties leaving me time to provide great customer service to my clients.

I also think it is important to offer some extra touches like my move in day meal.  When my buyers move into their new home, I like to surprise them by bringing them lunch, as we all know how much work unpacking is.  Having your friendly realtor show up with a meal to eat is just what you need to enjoy the experience.
